WILDLIFE
"I am passionate about animals and am deeply saddened about how they are often mistreated by humans. These emotions drive me to create powerful and thought-provoking paintings to raise awareness and understanding of animal welfare."

BLIND JOKIA
100 x 100 cm| Private Collection New Zealand| 2010
Jokia (1960- ) used to belong to an illegal logging camp: Forced to work while pregnant, she gave birth to her baby while pulling a large log uphill, wearing heavy logging chains. She was not allowed to stop working to tend to her newborn. By the time they returned, her baby was dead. After that, a depressed & heartbroken Jokia refused to work. While trying to force her back to work, her keeper blinded her. When her rescuer, Lek, first came across Jokia in 1999, she was roaring & trumpeting in pain & anger. Covered with infected wounds & scars from past beatings, she had tears running from her blinded eye & empty socket. Now settled into her new life at Elephant Nature Park, Jokia has found an elephant friend, Mae Perm, who protects & guides her. In 2003 Jokia gave birth to a baby named Hope.

120 x 120 cm, Private Collection New Zealand,2010
Tusko was the first male elephant from the Oklahoma Zoo to be given LSD. His dose was administered in a scientific experiment led by researchers at the University of Oklahoma in 1962. Tusko was injected with 297 milligrams of LSD – an enormous dose. He began to sway, his hindquarters buckled. Five minutes after the injection he trumpeted, collapsed, fell heavily onto his right side, defecated, and went into status epilepticus." He died two hours later.
